Today was my 12th infusion of soliris and I thought this was a good day to sum up my experience on soliris. I actually wanted to write about it earlier already… But yeah know…
With work, therapies, hobbies etc there wasn’t time.
I’m considered refractory. It basically means that despite treatment Im sliding into crisis and severe exacerbation quite often. So me being refractory my hope was to finally find a medicine that was going to keep me stable.
Well… I started in November really close to hospital admission again but since I started it, there wasn’t a need of admission anymore. We quit IVIG when I started soliris and it wasn’t. sure if that would be possible as I was IVIG dependent from Summer 2016 to October 2018. It was something I really needed. Well…I haven’t had a dose of IVIG since October and it’s okay 👌
Soliris itself runs about 30 min but with tests being done, premeds, observation time I’m usually there for about 3-6 hours.
Since Soliris is basically an open end therapy I have also decided to get a #portacath which was by far the best choice I’ve made. Should have done that years ago 😂
Well… Now let’s sum up the change that soliris gave me.
- My double vision has improved
- I’m able to raise my legs for a few seconds which wasn’t possible for over 2 years
- I can hold my arms up for around 70 to almost 90 seconds instead of previously max 30 seconds
- I don’t have problems with chewing anymore
I do get some side effects but those are mainly from the premeds. Soliris does give me a bid of a headache but that happened with IVIG as well…. So nothing unusual 😂
I do need a wheelchair full-time but I’m able to train and walk around 5-10 Meters with my physiotherapist which is amazing!
Yes it does cost a lot of money (luckily my health insurance pays it completely) but I also get a life back.
And I don’t want to meet and ICU again… Never ever!
Last time my former clinic almost killed me
